Secular Americans Protest Democratic Exclusion Today

Aug 25, 2008 in Colorado

When they found out that the Democratic National Convention was planning several days of meetings between religious leaders from tax exempt organizations and Democratic Party officials in order to plan for the use of tax exempt resources to support Democratic campaigns, and begin to coordinate for kickbacks under the expansion of government-funded religious programs, the Coalition of Secular Voters asked to be present at the meetings, to make sure that they were honest and legal, and to represent the interests of secular Americans.

Democratic Party officials refused to allow anyone from the Coalition of Secular Voters to attend. Why? What backroom dealing with religious leaders are the Democrats trying to cover up? Illegal campaign coordination? Corruption?

Ironically, the Democrats say that their theme for the Denver convention is unity. How is it unity when the Democratic Party refuses to allow non-religious Democrats full and equal participation?

This morning at 10:15 local time, the Secular Coalition of Voters will be meeting at the corner of West 14th and Fox in Denver. From there, they will move to protest at the start of the Democratic Convention’s parade, at the corner of Civic Center Park.

If you care about honest government and the survival of the separation of church and state, please join them, and speak out against the Democrats’ new attacks against the First Amendment’s guarantees of a government free of established religion.

Tom Tancredo’s Environmental Record Is The Pitts

Dec 22, 2007 in Colorado

Tom Tancredo, a Republican who represents the 6th district of Colorado in the House of Representatives, is running for President in 2008. As President, it would be his job to represent all the people of the United States of America, including those who do not want to live in filth.

Keeping the nation clean is really what environmentalism is all about. Environmentalists seek to keep the air, ground and water clean, so that people have the chance to lead healthy lives without unhealthy levels of industrial contamination.

Sadly, Congressman Tancredo seems unwilling to provide the leadership necessary to enable Americans to live free of the filth of industrial pollution. On the National Environmental Scorecard assembled by the League of Conservation Voters for 2006, Tancredo earns only a rating of eight percent. Of twelve key pieces of environmental legislation in the House of Representatives in 2006, Tancredo only voted in favor of one.

A one-in-twelve record of environmental success is not the kind of record we need to see in our next President. (Source: League of Conservation Voters, National Environmental Scorecard, 2006)

The Salazars of Colorado Bow Down to George W. Bush

Aug 06, 2007 in Colorado

George W. Bush has been exposed as the most dishonest and incompetent president in American history. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has been caught committing perjury before Congress, and using the Department of Justice as a tool to promote the political interests of the Republican Party. The Bush White House is approved of by less than 30 percent of American voters.

It ought to be easy for Democrats in Congress to stand up to George W. Bush and Alberto Gonzales. Unfortunately, many congressional Democrats just can’t hack it.

When confronted by George W. Bush’s demands that Alberto Gonzales be given unprecedented new powers to spy at whim on the telephone calls and emails of American citizens without a search warrant, without congressional oversight, and in absolute secrecy, 41 Democrats in the House of Representatives and 16 Democrats in the United States Senate didn’t have enough strength to say no. They caved in to Bush’s demands, and passed the so-called Protect America Act, in clear violation of the Bill of Rights.

Alberto Gonzales ought to resign in office from shame, not enjoy new powers to spy against the American people.

The Salazar brothers of Colorado were unable to see that obvious truth. Senator Ken Salazar and Representative John Salazar both surrendered to George W. Bush. They voted in favor of Bush’s plan to expand the power exercised by Alberto Gonzales.

The American Civil Liberties Union says of the Democrats’ failure to stand up to George W. Bush’s demands for increased power for Alberto Gonzales, “That a Democratically-controlled Senate would be strong-armed by the Bush administration is astonishing. This Congress may prove to be as spineless in standing up to the Bush Administration as the one that enacted the Patriot Act or the Military Commissions Act.”

Will Colorado Democrats continue to put up with the astonishing weakness of Ken and John Salazar?

Colorado for Obama Resource Directory Up

Aug 02, 2007 in Administrative, Colorado

This afternoon, the Colorado for Obama campaign resource directory is online. The directory links to an official Barack Obama for President Colorado community, of course, but more interesting than that are the activities of grassroots Colorado Obama supporters on social networks like Ning and MySpace. There’s also a video of a speech given by Barack Obama in Broomfield, Colorado in June, 2007.

In the heat of the summer, it may seem like there’s a long time to go before the Democratic presidential primary, but it’s only a few months away now. It’s heartening to see that a lot of activity in support of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is taking place in Colorado.
