When it comes to politics, Colorado is a mixed bag. On the one hand, Colorado places a strong emphasis on the protection of its environment, and espouses a distinctly Western "live-and-let-live" approach to many aspects of personal liberty. On the other hand, Colorado has been plagued by hyperconservative moralizing, particularly when it comes to gay rights. Colorado Republican Marilyn Musgrave has been at the forefront of the battle to forbid same-sex couples from entering the bond of marriage.
This is to say that Colorado is a state in some flux, with the possibility of taking either a progressive or a regressive path in the future. Which path Colorado chooses is not simply determined by the balance of conservative versus liberal thinkers in the state. As Sam Adams once said, "It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds."
Who will set those fires in people's minds? The likes of Marilyn Musgrave? We certainly hope not, but supporters of her retrograde ideology are well-organized in Colorado. If the progressive spirit is to prevail, it must be amplified by those of us who have the wherewithal to spread it.
That's where you come in. To move from merely thinking progressive thoughts to voicing them publicly, we're offering a set of bumper stickers tailored to progressive political candidates and causes in Colorado. If you want to take the further step of helping to organize for progressive political victories, we've not only provided links to campaigns looking for your help, we've also listed and linked to a number of progressive non-profit organizations working on particular issues across the state. Of course, the first necessary act before engaging in any of the above activities is to inform oneself. To help you in this regard, we've identified not only the mainstream news organizations in Colorado, but have also uncovered a set of alternative sources of news and information to help you get the other side that conservative news operations like Fox, Gannett and Clear Channel never air in the first place.
If you know of additional candidates, information resources or organizations in Colorado of a progressive inclination, let us know so we can consider including them here.
